Happy New Year Friends! It is official, 2018 has finally begun. It’s the time for cheer, time for new goals, resolutions, time to organize your life. At least that’s what the stores tell us we need to do. As soon as Christmas arrives, storage solutions start packing the shelves like its an omen telling you to get your shit together. Drives me nuts! Happy New Year, here is a storage tote to help you out! Oh, gee…thanks! Well, its big, it’s hot right now so why not start with how to organize under your kitchen sink!
This is the cleaning hub of our house right? I mean what better way to start the new year and prepare for spring cleaning than to organize the area under our sinks! For some reason, it has been dubbed as the place to keep cleaning products, scrub brushes, paper towel, magic erasers, towels, trash bags and so much more! I mean honestly, the list of things we keep under the sink is SCARY!
It was a nice sunny day and I was out front of my house watering my plants with the hose attached to spiket that happens to be plumbed under my sink. Well, I am enjoying life right, headphones on, dancing with the groove and keeping my plants alive! I mean, isn’t that what everyone does? Rocking my sun hat, I go to the spiket to turn the water off to the hose. Well, the darn thing is leaking, I am thinking I didn’t get it tight enough.
So I cranked a little harder, needed to make sure it was really nice and tightly closed. Still leaked! I say screw it and head inside, the husband will fix it later. 30 minutes go by and I head in to get myself a glass of water! I walk into a flooded kitchen alright! Half an inch of water all over the freaking place and water is spewing out the cabinet under the kitchen sink.
I’m standing there like, ah hell, then I start to panic and the oh shits start in. As I open the cabinet under the sink I realize that me cranking the spiket a little too tight caused the old pipe to bust! Sweet, right? That’s what I said! As I am maneuvering over the giant mess of shit under my sink to clean up the mess. I start tossing crap out of my way and I realized that I have created a disaster under this sink. That it wouldn’t have been that bad to clean up if I had my shit together. All I needed was to find the pipe and turn the water off, it was a horrible giant mess. What was next for me after I paid a plumber to fix my uh oh? Organize under the kitchen sink and make it look pretty!
How’d I do it? Let me tell you the ways!
1. Take Everything Out
Yes!!! Empty it, remove anything and everything you have lurking under the sink!
2. Simplify Your Products
How many floor cleaners do you need? You have how many scrub brushes? Okay, it is easier to keep things organized if you don’t have a lot of it! Don’t hoard cleaning products or tools!
3. Retrieve Storage Solutions
Here are a couple of my favorite storage solutions that will seriously help you organize under the kitchen sink
- Tension Rod: This is fantastic for hanging cleaning product on. Just hook the squeeze part over it and it frees up more space to be used under the bottles! Check it out here: Tension Shower Stall Rod, 26 to 40 Inch, White
- Cabinet Paper Towel Hanger: These are so lovely, why? It clears off precious counter space and keeps the countertops clean. Check it out! Forma Swivel Paper Towel Holder for Kitchen Under Cabinet Door/Drawer Brushed Finish
- Command Hooks: Place these on the inside of your cabinet, perfect for hanging scrub brushes, towels and more! This is my favorite set, it’s a nice big pack! Command Large Utility Hooks
- Storage Baskets: Any storage basket works, pick something cute though! This can house magic erasers, towels, trash bags and more!
4. Puts products back in a logical way!
What do I mean by this? Simple really and common sense. Place items you rarely use but need on occasion in the back such as Drain-O. Items that you use often should be in the front, your daily cleaning supplies and trash bags should be the easiest things to retrieve!
5. Finally, Lock it up and keep it kid proof!
Before you finish and shut those cabinet doors, now is the time to stand back and admire your work! Take it all in, you did a great job! I’m sure it looks beautiful! This is so simple and easy to do, just a few simple steps to an organized under the kitchen sink area! Now shut those doors and slide a kid-proof lock on it! We want to make sure we keep our chemicals away from kids and pets! We use this cabinet lock: Sliding Cabinet Locks For Child Safety There are many on the market but this one has served us well!
You did it!
Congratulations! You are officially one step closer to your New Years resolution of a more organized life! You’re a total badass! Now that you have this part done, you can officially tackle the rest of your organization and cleaning needs. A few simple steps and you just decluttered, organized, and kid proofed your house! Boom, you are a boss!
